Earth Day! <3
2003-04-22 :: 4:47 p.m.

Ah, the beauty of being in my high schools Environmental Club. This morning I got to do the first of a series of announcements for Earth Day/Week/Month with my friend, Lisa. We were extremely perky and very irritating. That is our plan, irritate people so much that they pay attention to what we say. haha. It was a different experience, anyway. Fun, but strange. I dont like the idea of my voice being projected to that many people in that many different rooms. Oh well, I guess. At least it wasnt just me.

Today we talked about the origins of Earth Day and tomorrows script is below. Enjoy this deliciously cheesy piece of fantabulous writing!

Lisa: Hello again! Its Lisa.

Sarah: And Sarah. And heres your morning Environmental Blast!

Lisa As we mentioned yesterday, the CPHS Environmental Club is currently raising money for the World Wildlife Fund. We are attempting to raise $300 to adopt a polar bear in the name of our school. We need your help to reach this goal.

Sarah: Polar bears are a threatened species which live in the circumpolar north. Biologists estimate that there are 22,000 to 27,000 bears on the planet, of which around 15,000 are in Canada.

Lisa: In Canada, Hudsons Bays ice melts about three weeks earlier each spring than it did just 25 years ago, which has greatly shortened the time that the bears can hunt for food. Canadian scientists have observed that todays polar bears are smaller, have fewer cubs, and have excessive levels of PCBs and other contaminants in their systems.

Sarah: The goal of the World Wild Life Fund is to safeguard the habitat of Canadas polar bears. They are working to protect a 50 million hectare network of new Arctic conservation areas by 2005.

Lisa: But they cannot do it alone; it is the help of others, such as the students and staff of CPHS, that can help secure the future of these wonderful animals. So please support us in our future fundraising efforts.

Sarah: Thanks for listening!

Today we held a bake sale to raise money for the polar bear and we are doing a small change drive as well. Then on the 30th of this month we are picking up garbage in our town. It's feels so good to do something for this planet, ya know?

I honestly feel that people just don't take anything to do with saving the environment seriously, these days. It is quite sad if you ask me because pretty soon there will be nothing left and we will look back at how stupid and ignorant we are. *sigh* If only more people cared. All I can say is, don't be like everyone else, do something before it is too late. Being unheeding is not going to get us anywhere!

Some people may say that I am preaching stupidity and that saving the environment is really not important, but it is. Humans abuse this planet tremendously and it is affecting not only us, but the earth as well. We seem to enjoy killing everything good within our grasp. Tell me, why is that? Is that right? I don't think so.

Was going to make another entry, but seems a little pointless since I am only posting some silly results.

Colorgenics:
You have a vivid imagination and this is good. Great inventors, explorers all had inventive, imaginative minds. Your friends and acquaintances may consider you over-imaginative and given to fantasy or day-dreaming. So what? This is a part of your character and charm.

Now there are many things in life that you require as essential to your well-being but, try as you may, something always seems to be getting in your way. A word of advice - 'keep trying' and you may be pleasantly surprised to see just how matters turn out.

Your involvements seldom measure up to your high emotional expectations and your 'needs' to be 'loved' and 'cared for' have in the past often led to extreme disappointment. But a change is in the wind - make a firm decision to start anew. Just 'think' it..and it will happen.

You are trying to prove yourself - not only to yourself but also to everyone around you. There is much that you would like to say and do but the situation warrants self-restraint and that is the last thing that you have on your mind. It would seem that you have an unsatisfied need to ally yourself with others whose standards are as high as your own. You want to be different - to stand out from the crowd. This is subjecting you to considerable stress but you tend to stick to your attitudes despite lack of appreciation. Of course, you are finding the situation uncomfortable and would like nothing better but to break away from it but you don't like the idea of compromise. Your main problem is that you are unable to resolve the situation because you continually postpone making the necessary decisions. You feel that if you make the wrong choice this would lead to such opposition that you would not be able to command the esteem of others. It is essential that those around you are prepared to comply with your wishes.

You feel that you need to move on. You feel that you are not appreciated or valued for what you are and that the time is 'now'. Failure to do so will not afford you the conditions to prove your worth.
